2004 Icebreaker Race

This event will be a medium distance race around large government navigation structures in the central Chesapeake Bay.

Start and finish will be off the Pirates Cove Pier on the West River in Galesville, MD.

Boat set-up and launching will be on the WRCRA lot in Galesville. This lot has an oyster shell ramp of about 18’ in width. There are piers on both sides of the launch area (probably wise to bring a paddle for the launch). This launch site is in a residential area. Arrivals before 7:30 a.m. 4/18 must call and confirm w/ site manager Roger Holmes (410 867 1628). Competitors whose actions are considered to adversely affect the continued beach access of WRCRA will be disqualified. Please be considerate of our neighbors.

Competitors may be required to park their cars at a nearby satellite site. A shuttle will be provided for your convenience.

The Post-race social event will take place at Pirates Cove Restaurant. Food and drink service will be from the menu. Race fees do not include restaurant services.

From the Annapolis area:

Just past the mailbox on the left-hand side with the number 4843 on it; turn left. You will see the catamarans and trailers set up on this lot.

Registration will be between 0900 and 1000 on the morning of the 18th. Entry fee will be $25.00 with a $5.00 discount for USSailing members. Single-handed boats will be $20.00 with a $5.00 discount for USSailing members. Members must present their membership cards to be eligible for this discount.

Classes: All boats will start together. Prizes will be awarded to the lowest first 4 boats to finish on Portsmouth corrected times.

 

Participants meeting will be at 10:00 on the 18th. The course will be described at that time.

Coast Guard mandated safety equipment will be required. Usual distance racing equipment (VHF, personal strobes, charts, light) is recommended.
