We've been a little lax as usual getting the Catsailor's Invasion and Awards Party going, do stay tuned for that.  But the site has been updated with the 2013 schedule and registration forms.  And just to get you thinking about hitting the water again, here's some shots from last year's Annapolis to Galesville race, courtesy of Jahn Tihanski!  Last yea saw a lot of action on the Bay, and one of the things was the Corsair Nationals at the Screwpile Regatta.  So I just had to throw in a pic of the Good Ship Tri-Pawed in Solomons!  Get ready for 2013!

All pics by Jahn Tihanski from the 2012 Annapolis to Galesville race, except for the Corsair, that's by me:

News of the 2012 Sailing Season:

6/15/12 - 2012 WRCRA Tuesday Night Racing is Underway!!!

Just like last year, the first Tuesday served up some zesty conditions, and the cat-folk jumped right in!  No real carnage (a flip or two...) and it is great that the Fleet is back on the water!

6/15/12 - 2012 WRCRA Racers in the 2012 WRSC Heritage Race!!!

I really love this shot by Wendy Daunheimer from the start of this year's Heritage Race:

6/15/12 - 2012 WRCRA Skipper's Meeting!!!

The Fleet actually even got the Skipper's Meeting done before the racing started!  A bunch of people sat around, drank some beer, and finally changed something that folks have wanted to change for awhile - Portsmouth is out and SCHRS is in for the handicapping system.  Joe has worked feverishly to incorporate the scoring system into the WRCRA scoring Massive Parallel Processing system to compute the winner each week.  Joe believes that with the new numbers, Roger will win each week!  Stay tuned!

6/15/12 - 2011 WRCRA Awards Party Crowns New High/Low Point Champ!!!

This year we really pushed the limits for getting the Party off the ground before the new sailing season started.  And once again, the Fleet Party was the usual great time with great people at a great venue for a great sport!  Continuing the theme of crowning new champions, the WRCRA crowned a new all season champion - Pat Stadt!  Pat put in a solid string of results (talk about consistency) to grab the right take the perpetual trophy home for the year!  Congratulations Pat!

Just look at that focus!  All Hail the New King!

5/02/11 - 2011 WRCRA Tuesday Night Racing is Underway!!!

The Fleet got to racing again as the 2011 weeknight series got underway for the Fleet's 22nd year!  Man, who would have thought this would have these kind of legs?  The first Tuesday served up some zesty conditions, and the cat-folk jumped right in!  The first Tuesday claimed a mast, a rudder blade, and a few egos.  But it was awesome for the Fleet to be back on the water!  Here's a few highlights:

You're not supposed to be able to do this to a N-20...

Ed needs a mast...

John back on his feet!

Pat leads the way to the first finish!

The Fleet then finally got off its arse again and held a skipper's meeting for the 2011 racing season.  The big changes are that we will start the sequence at 6:05 on the nose - if you're late, you're late!  Also, one more throw out was added to both Summer series for a total of 4 throw outs fro each summer series.  The Frostbite is unchanged.  Check out the Instructions page for an update.

5/02/11 - 2010 WRCRA Awards Party Crowns New High/Low Point Champ!!!

The Fleet finally got off its arse and held an awards party for the 2010 season!  The usual great time with great people at a great venue for a great sport!  What more can you ask for?  Not much in my book.  The big news was that for the 2010 season, the WRCRA crowned a new all season champion - John Geiger!  John ended the reign of Sir Ed Mills, putting a solid string of results to grab the right take the perpetual trophy home for the year!  Way to go John!  Check the results page for the full skinny, here's the other trophy spots:

2/10/11 - Cat Sailors Invade Annapolis!!!

Once again the Chesapeake area cat sailors invaded Annapolis in the Winter.  Here's proof.  Ram's Head was the site of this year's edition, and some folks even traveled from the West Coast to be there!  Next year nobody will have any excuses!

2/10/11 - Cat Sailors Invade White Tail!!!

This year the Chesapeake area cat sailors also invaded White Tail for a little skiing.  Here's proof.  Amazing, they stayed sober long enough to get some good runs in!

In Memoriam:

Joe Williams and Rob Wilson

The Fleet has lost two of its great friends, one a sailor and one not.

Joe Williams, or "Fort Knox" as many called him, was a Galesville institution, having spent almost his whole career working at Pirate's Cove.  He was definitely part of the Fleet, and if you didn't like his open friendliness, ability to remember people and make them feel at home, work ethic, or his gold teeth and $100 bill bow tie, you had to love his cherry Pontiac GTO Judge.  Quick with a joke and a smile, we'll miss hearing him call out our names as we come in and seeing us off with "love ya, see you next Tuesday".

Rob Wilson was a sailor through and through, and he had knack for being unflappable and keeping Tornado skippers at ease.  A forensic engineer by trade, he had a eye for how things should be.  This, combined with a dry wit and a Scottish accent made him a fixture in the core of the Fleet.   He sailed with Chris Ford when Chris had his Tornado, and over the last couple of years sailed with Kevin Cook on Kevin's Tornado.  He also crewed for Mark Schneider and others, again mostly on Tornados.  Kevin and Rob often were out sailing when the rest of us were futzing around on the beach waiting for the skipper's meetings.  I always thought they were sorting out the boat or practicing something, but Kevin revealed that Rob basically told him that it's a beautiful day, forget the meeting let's enjoy the time out sailing.  As it should be.

As we start the new season it's hard to imagine our friends are not here in person.  But they sure are here in spirit.  Guys, thanks for spending some of your time with us, we're all the better for it!  Cheers.
