News of the 2010 Sailing Season:
7/7/10 - News and Other Stuff!!!
The Spring Summer series is drawing to a close, and what a series it has been! Participation has been great, and there's some good fights for position going on. It's been a great year so far, and with so much sailing left to do it can only get better. Last night the WRCRA racers hosted youth sailors form the WRSC, taking them for rides during the race. Great times. Check out the results page for the low down, and dig on some of the shots below. Also, go to YouTube and search on West River Catamarans and check out some videos.
Who let the cats out!?
The N-20 is still the ride to have...
But there's a reason the F-16s are gaining popularity...
John needs to be reminded that he ain't sailing a N-20!
5/11/10 - News and Other Stuff!!!
Ok, the site has gotten a bit stale again. Even though the year is young, quite a bit has gone on. Stay tuned here, I'll try to add things in to get back current!
Cat Sailors on the Bounty!
Yes, apparently Tyler also sails monohulls! Looks like he could be rounding the Horn...
Tyler got us an awesome opportunity to take a day trip on the HMS Bounty out of Fells Point. The Bounty is a replica built in 1960 for the movie, and was supposed to be destroyed as part of the filming. But Brando said no, and the ship lives on! Lucky us! This was no ordinary sunset cruise - the captain and crew expected us to grab a line and pitch in to sail her. It was a blustery day, and it was a kick to feel such a ship come alive under our feet. We tacked, we jibed, we wondered what would happen if we tossed the ballast overboard and attached two amas... Just kidding, we would never do such a thing. Anyway, they also got us to climb the rigging, which was a great experience. A great day, thanks to the captain and crew! For more on this ship, check out www.tallshipbounty.org. Here's some more pics:
Beautiful Ship! You could launch an awesome assym spin off of that sprit!
Fat man in the rigging! The Bounty listed 15 degrees to port right after this pick was taken...
2009 WRCRA Fleet Awards Party was held on March 20!
Same Old Act, Still Packing the House...
Gang's All Here at the WRCRA "Fleet Reserve", John Admiring the New Edition of the Trophies
The Fleet gathered for the yearly rite of Winter, or in this case right of Spring, to celebrate the 2009 sailing season. A great time had by all - the usual great food, great drink, great camaraderie smothered in a heaping helping of sailing chatter. As usual, a major highlight was the unveiling of the trophies. And also as usual, they were a hit! This time, Roger broke the mold and hand crafted trophies artfully representing wind vanes! They start with a metal based etched with the series, skipper, and boat and are topped off by a perfectly balanced rotating handcrafted wooden vane. Beautifully done, and a great source of amusement as the bases were handed out as the scores were read, and the vanes were unveiled at the end. A great way to cap off a great year with a great bunch of friends that also happen to sail together!
As always, check out the results pages for the true skinny, but here's the lucky folks who earned the right to take some artwork home for 2009:

3/15/10 - The Big Thaw!!!!
I haven't seen any Ospreys yet, but the last of the snow has finally melted out of my yard. Also, the Little Magothy has finally thawed. So this is presented with a little nostalgia for the soon to be departed Winter:
Tri-Pawed resting in the ice with the geese, patiently waiting for warmth!
